If you reasonably believe an investigatory interview could lead to discipline, you may request union representation. Make the request clearly and contact a steward promptly.

What should I save when a workplace problem begins?

Keep notices, emails, schedules, relevant policies, notes of conversations, and the dates you received or sent important information. Do not alter official records.

How quickly should I contact a steward?

As soon as practical. Grievance, discipline, appeal, and administrative processes may have short filing or response deadlines.

Can a steward help before I know whether there is a grievance?

Yes. You do not need to identify the formal process first. A steward can help review the facts, agreement language, policy, and available options.

Where should I start when management changes a workplace rule?

Save the notice or instruction, record when the change begins and who is affected, and contact a steward so the Local can evaluate any notice or bargaining obligations.

Is information submitted to the Local automatically confidential?

The Local handles representational information carefully, but confidentiality can depend on the process and facts. Ask your representative before sending especially sensitive information through a public form or ordinary email.
